In the world of electric scooters, the Unagi Model One Classic stands out not only for its futuristic and sleek design but also for its exceptional performance. Due to its design and compact size, it has become one of our favorite scooters. In Japanese, Unagi means "eel," an apt name for a company that manufactures one of the most stylish electric scooters on the market. The Unagi Model One (€990) not only glides through the crowd but does so with power and a striking design.

Unagi Model One: Price and Availability

Unagi is launching a new variant of the Model One, called the Model One Voyager, which promises 66% more range (up to 32 km), a more powerful motor with 1000 watts of peak power, a larger deck, and a new connected app. The Unagi Model One Classic is available in two configurations: the E250 (€840) with a single motor and the E500 (€990) with dual motors. You can choose from blue, red, white, and black colors, with additional premium custom design options for the E500 at an extra cost of €300. Additionally, Unagi offers a monthly rental service called "Unagi All-Access," allowing you to rent the Model One for €59 per month and the Model One Voyager for €79 per month. This service includes delivery and maintenance, offering a convenient solution for those who prefer not to make a full purchase.

Design

The design of the Unagi Model One Classic is one of its most attractive features. With a magnesium alloy chassis, this scooter has a sleek, aerodynamic look that seems straight out of a futuristic 90s movie, with a minimalist and clean surface design. It is available in five color combinations, each with a stylish and modern finish. The scooter's surface is coated with non-slip rubber, ensuring a safe and comfortable ride.

Control Panel and Lights

Setting up the Unagi Model One Classic is a straightforward process. The scooter is controlled by two hand levers: the right one for acceleration and the left one for braking. Above each lever is a small button; the right one allows you to switch between three riding modes, and the left one activates a loud, sharp horn, similar to a smoke detector alarm. The folding mechanism is ingenious and efficient. By pulling two tabs at the base of the steering tube, the scooter folds, and the front wheel locks in place, making it easy to transport and store. The Unagi Model One Classic is equipped with two front LEDs that provide clear vision in the dark. While they are not as bright as those on the Glion, they are more than effective. Additionally, it has a red rear light that flashes when braking, enhancing safety

Unagi Model One Performance

With two 250-watt motors, the Unagi Model One offers impressive power. This is especially evident on a hill near my home, where other scooters slow down to about 8-9 km/h, while the Unagi climbs at around 19 km/h. Although it is limited to 24 km/h, it feels ready to go much faster.

The Unagi uses rubber wheels instead of inflatables, with grooves around the circumference for a smoother ride without the risk of punctures. With Unagi's 7.5-inch wheels, the experience is more pleasant than with other scooters, but compared to the Levy, which uses 8.5-inch inflatable wheels, it falls a bit short.

Battery duration

Unagi advertises a range of 25 km for the Model One, but in real-world conditions, this figure is usually lower. During tests that included using both motors and several hills, a range of approximately 16 km was achieved. For those who need greater range, it is recommended to consider the Model One Voyager, which promises 66% more range (up to 32 km) and a more powerful motor with 1000 watts of peak power.

Veredict

With a price of nearly €1000, the Unagi Model One is not cheap, but it is a scooter that, due to its performance, design, and build quality, is well worth it. If your daily routine involves climbing steep hills, its powerful motors ensure you won't be left stranded. The screen is bright and clear, and its stylish design outshines many in its price range.
